From Fashion to Fine Art: My Creative Journey
Despite creating art being one of my earliest memories, I postponed making art my job. I decided to take what seemed to be a more sensible career path and went into fashion. I really enjoyed my 19 years working in fashion. But my dream to be an artist didn’t fade. Eventually, I scratched my itch for art. Here’s why.
I can’t help it!
I’m always overflowing with creative energy. My mind is constantly bubbling with new ideas for my next creation. I don’t really draw a line between my life and art; it’s all intertwined and makes up my whole world.
Creating art is an essential part of my life, as natural as breathing. Whether I’m painting or unwinding with art documentaries and books, art is always on my mind. The process of creating is an emotional journey filled with excitement and fulfilment. I love the feeling of satisfaction that comes with completing a piece, even after a rollercoaster of emotions while working on it.
My art is playful and positive, but I also explore deeper themes. It’s important to me that my work has an uplifting and motivational impact. I enjoy the nervous excitement of unveiling new pieces and the fascinating reactions they elicit, particularly from children, whose unfiltered honesty I deeply value.
Art for the greater good is at the core of my work. I aim to positively impact communities by creating safe spaces in schools and colleges for students to express themselves and learn about their rights. I’ve had the honour of contributing to educational projects, such as the Human Rights book with RFK illustration, and collaborating with local councils to address community needs through creative practices.
Co-creating with schools and youth groups is one of my favourite aspects of my work. I provide spaces where young people can voice their opinions and explore their creativity. I also enjoy supporting small businesses with window art, murals, and creative designs that enhance their spaces and start conversations.
Encapsulating Manchester
I fell in love with Manchester at 17, captivated by its energy and diversity. The city has been a constant source of inspiration in my work, and I love capturing its essence through my art.
