Description

Will and I love walking, and we’d heard about a bothy near Wainwright’s favourite mountain, Haystacks, where we could stay the night..We set off later than we should have for what turned out to be a longer and tougher walk than expected. As the afternoon went on, we realised we wouldn’t make it to the bothy before dark, so we decided to pitch our tent on the next mountain. I was nervous about sleeping on top of a mountain, but at that stage, we had no other option. Once the tent was up, the sky suddenly transformed a spectacular performance of peach, orange, and deep yellow clouds dancing together. It was utterly breathtaking; we felt completely alive in that moment. It didn’t last long. Soon the wind began to howl, and dark skies loomed in the distance. We took cover in the tent and made a simple stew on our camp stove. Absolute madness but an unforgettable, magical memory.
